CRM field ownership
A CRM value keeps changing back
Repeated reversals usually point to competing writers or a stale full-record update. Trace the field's provenance before making another manual correction.

Follow one field on one record
Confirm the cross-system record mapping and inspect available property history, integration operations and user edits. Establish the sequence of values and writers.
Do not begin by running a full resync. It may repeat the same overwrite across more records and remove useful evidence.
Keep sensitive contact details in the authorised investigation system rather than broad chat messages.
Compare the writes with the ownership rule
Identify which system should control the field and whether the observed writer is permitted. Check batch jobs and support scripts as well as the main integration.
A common pattern is a nightly job sending a whole contact snapshot while the live path sends only owned fields. The batch's older value can undo a legitimate CRM edit.
Inspect the actual outgoing property set rather than assuming both paths use the same mapper.
Stop the conflicting path narrowly
Pause the affected field or writer under the integration's supported controls while preserving unrelated work where safe. Avoid disabling every sync direction if the scope is clear.
Correct the mapping or field policy and test the observed sequence with synthetic data. Include the integration's own change echo and a subsequent user edit.
If authority is disputed, involve the business owner before choosing which value to restore.
Repair and verify persistence
Apply the agreed correction through the controlled path and record its provenance. Run the next relevant live or scheduled sync and confirm the value remains correct.
Inspect other records affected by the same writer and time window. Use the policy to identify candidates rather than assuming every difference is damage.
Close the incident by updating the shared mapping and regression test. A manual field edit is only a temporary fix until the process that kept reversing it has changed.
